Memorial Day

We floated the River with Paul and Sam. Huston's brother and girlfriend.
It was much needed time together with them. We had a blast.

The river was far too crowded, and there were too many drunks, and I even witnessed someone rolling thier very own massive dooby, but ... from the sober side of things and probably the only people on the river drinking dr. pepper and root beer it was a very entertaining day watching people make fools of themselves. We also relaxed and just enjoyed Paul and Sam.

Love quality time with siblings who we rarely see or spend time with. I think it meant alot to both parties.

Grilling Lesson Numero Uno

Friday evening my parents went out of town. My husband came home from work tired and we had the house to ourselves. This is a rare occasion. (We live with my parents! Which is nice, we definately appreciate the help, but we miss being on our own...and we are in the process of trying to make that happen.)

Anyway, I was hungry and my husband didnt want to go out because he was tired, so I decided I was going to brave the grill for the first time and make us some dinner. My husband laughed, and decided to "teach" me how to grill. haha

It turned out to be a really fun date. Maylie sat on the back porch watching us grill and we laughed and talked with her outside. She loves attention of course.

The steak turned out pretty good and im glad my husband decided to help. Haha. Amazing what no TV and time outside can do for a little family like ours. It was nice un-interupted true quality time and we loved it!

Bailey Blue

On Friday our dog Bailey passed away early in the morning. We have 3 dogs but Bailey was our oldest. We have had her since she was a pup, and she passed at the age of 12.
She was such a fun dog. Even though she only loved my dad and was grumpy, she would still play ball with you all day and give you an annoying bark of a greeting when you came in the door. Sad day.

You will be missed Bailey Blue. You brought so much joy to our family. We love you so much!

4 months old

I am in denial. It goes by way too fast.
I have a 4 month old. She is hilarious and getting to be so much fun!

Maylie Kalea is a whopping 16 pounds and 261/2 inches long. She is 90% for weight and off the charts for her height. She's the size of most 8-9 month olds that we know.


She's wearing 9-12 month clothes and almost in size 3 diapers. The reason she is in such big girl clothes is because her body is so dang long. Poor girl is cursed with her Mother and Father's long torso and short legs.

She is starting to get lots of little rolls on her thighs and we are loving it!

The little girl was born with so much expression. She makes so many faces. thats part of the reason we think she is so funny. For a little girl who doesn't talk much, she sure says ALOT with her face.

Little Turkey's personality is really starting to bloom. She LOVES LOVES LOVES the sound of her own voice.

She loves her toes. For some reason they are hilarious

We have made her giggle a few times. Its not often yet, but when she does its when we play "Peek a Boo"

She is obsessed with her Daddy. If I interrupt her daddy time I get this look of ... "Mom, this is MY daddy." .... Little does she know.... HES MINE!!!! haha

Maylie LOVES other children. She doesn't interact with them much, but she will watch their every move and smile at them. Its so sweet.

She has the BLUEST eyes, and carrot red hair. We are a little confused as to where any of those traits came from. I am still crossing my fingers for curly locks on her little bald head.

If you stick out your tongue at her she thinks its hilarious. If you blow in her face, also hilarious. You will always find a smile with these two methods

She is a master eater. She licks and tries everything. So far... Mashed Potatoes, Nacho Cheese, Chocolate, Smoothies, Rice Cereal, Banana's. She opens her mouth for a spoon like she has known how to eat her whole life. She also loves to watch others eat. She observes everything.

She tries so hard to mimic everything. Sounds, motions etc...

She has six chins. I always find food under them. It makes me laugh.

Maylie LOVES LOVES LOVES to be outside. She will cry in the evenings until you take her OUTSIDE. Its literally one of her cries. She communicates to take her outside. She also loves animals. Dogs, turtles, birds, horses, etc..

Maylie has recently decided its great to sleep till 9 am and her Mommy is so grateful and not complaining about it. She has always been a good sleeper but its like just since she turned 4 months the past week and a half, we do 9 am almost every morning. oh and she sleeps in a big girl bed now! she practically takes up the whole bed.. definitely a little bed hog.

She Hates TUMMY TIME.

She still cuddles and has really started to love ONLY her mommy and daddy even though she is social, we have to be in her sight. Not sure how much we like this or not...

Maylie is also almost sitting up on her own. :) and scooting. Not crawling..just scooting.

We also LOVE water. in all forms. Swimming and bathe-time. She always cries when she has to get out.

She loves to be told she is beautiful and called Princess. Its hilarious.

Oh and we never leave the house without a bow! if you couldnt tell??.... Haha. She is starting to hate them. Im not ready for that stage yet. We have only had one mistake where someone thought she was a boy. Not ever happening again. Poor Baldy.

We are so grateful for such a precious angel. She makes us smile every day. Every stage just gets more fun. We love you Maylie Kalea. So happy you are ours!

My first Mothers day

The last few years I dreaded this day. Even though it was supposed to be about how much i loved my mommy, it became nothing by a reminder that I wasn't one yet. 

This year Im overly pleased to have been able to celebrate this wonderful day. Kind of weird how it works out, but when you have your own kid, you kind of really appreciate your mom a whole lot more. 

Im grateful to her for all she has done. 

Im also grateful for this woman who raised my greatest blessing in a way that I get to enjoy him for the rest of eternity. 

and this munchkin... well she made me a mom. I will never forget this mother's day. My first. My baby was sweet and tender. Its like she knew.... that sweet tender child was the first to make me a mom. I will love her forever for it. 

I was spoiled by my husband. but thats aside the point, I spent most of the day reflecting in gratitude that I get to be a mom. Heavenly Father trusted me with this tender child. She's mine forever.  She came to our lives at the perfect time. I think back about how long she took to get here and how impatient I got with myself and the Lord, but there was no better time for her to join our family. Hind sight is always 20/20.

5 month update

Yes. We have officially been home for almost 5 months. Here is a small update:

-We still live with my parents (wasnt the plan, but its working out.) Remember that when you make plans the Lord almost always thinks its funny???

-Huston got a job. thought it had "potential" but really we kept just justifying 60 hour work weeks of driving our car all over the valley and only making about $200 a week not being compensated for gas, so really he was only making about $50. Ya that didnt last long. Me and Maylie missed him too much for that to even be remotely worth it. So.. He quit and is currently working for his old boss. The job has followed him around. Before his mission, after, and now after Hawaii. His boss is actually going to teach him the whole business and let him manage it for a while. Huston really enjoys it, and its a normal 8-5pm job so we are much happier. His job hunt has been much more challenging than expected, but he committed to his boss for a few years to get the experience under his belt. We think its the right decision.

-Huston got his tonsils out. for an adult this is a major recovery. We have been working on getting him healthy again.

-Maylie was sick for 2 weeks. Shes finally feeling better! Im grateful we finally have a happy baby.

- I completed 450 hours of internship last week. It feels amazing to be done. Finished and now I can finally feel like Maylie's mom instead of her Grandma's having to take that roll. Im grateful I finished school but that was the hardest thing Ive ever done.

-Our "plans" are to move forward with purchasing a house. Who knows how soon that can be. We are calling the bank tomorrow to ask all of our pre-qualification questions

-Continuing our education is still in the "plans" but we think we are going to wait a year or two before trying to tackle that

- I have a flipping 4 month old. I cant believe it. My baby is growing too fast which is another post by itself.

-Maylie is the light of our lives. Motherhood has been the greatest blessing. It has been a fairly easy transition for us. Huston is a natural father and stepped into that role amazingly well, and me after hormones, well I just love it, and Maylie makes it easy. She is THE best baby. Im so grateful we were given the opportunity FINALLY. Speaking of finally...in 2 weeks .. it will be 1 year since we found out we were having Maylie.

-Last week on the 25th of April Huston has officially been home from his mission 4 years. Where did time go??? It seems like 4 years flew by way faster then the two years I waited for him to get back. Sheesh, Im grateful I ended up with him. He is perfect for me and the Lord definitely preserved our feelings for one another! Now we have been happily married almost 4 years. Imagine that??
