November 5

Today we are grateful to be able to live in paradise while receiving an education. Even though i refer to it as "the rock" sometimes, I truly do love it here. It is breathtakingly beautiful and amazing to live in such a culturally diverse place. I have never encountered so many different people from different places and all have different stories. Some of these people sacrifice everything they have to become educated and then take back what they learn to thier home countries and become vital leaders that we need. I love the motto of the school "Enter to Learn, and Go forth to serve."  That simple statement has so much meaning.

Anyway, we are grateful to live in such a beautiful place and be able to recieve an education at the same time.  Hawaii truly is beautiful and breathtaking. How did we get so lucky? ( PS. 2 years ago, when my husband put me on a plane and moved me out here, I did not feel the same.) I guess this ol' rock has really grown on me. We have made it our home, and we will never forget starting our lives in Hawaii. Its our 3 year long Honeymoon. We actually kind of dread starting "real life" someday.

November 4

Today we are grateful for....

Our families. Our eternal families.

We miss them alot and love them more than we ever could express. My husband lost his father at a young age, and I lost my brother as well...not a day goes by where we dont talk about them and the Plan of Salvation. We are grateful for that chance to get to live with them again.

Our families have helped us out so much as we started out our marraige, as well as supporting us through all of our goals we are currently accomplishing. We couldnt do it without them.

Proud Big Sister

My mom sent me the funnest text last night.

It said....

" Marlie is trying out for the softball team, and we just pulled out your bat bag. She is using everything. She is so excited for try-outs! If she makes the team she wants to be #14 (my old number)! Hows that for being a big sister?"

Yep, it sounds silly but that made my day. I have been waiting for the day that one of my siblings shares my talents. I lost all hope when my sister said she had no interest in pursueing volleyball. Although I do find it really cool that my brother is quite musical because that is a talent I have always wished to develop. Anyways, I hope my sister makes the team and likes Softball. Its such a fun sport, I just wish that I was still at home to get to coach her.

On another note my little brother.... yes little brother.... is going through the temple this saturday. I am devastated that I cannot be there, But I thought he should know how proud I am of him. He is going to be the most amazing missionary for the gospel. He has such a strong desire to serve the Lord and is such an example of obedience. I never would of thought my brother would be going through the temple just 2 short years after me, and in terms of understanding the concept, I still dont. It will be fun to get to attend a session with him before he leaves, and answer some of his questions if I can. I hope he learns of the importance of this building and can find the same kind of peace there that I do.

We could not be more thrilled to get to be on the "mainland" or I guess I should say HOME!

We are grateful for those who always help us make this happen. Our parents!!! We couldnt do it without them!

November 3

Tithing...

Today we are grateful for the principle of paying a full tithe to the Lord. 10% of each paycheck goes to the Lord. If you pay that, I can assure you that you will be provided for. When we were just starting out, had been married only 3 weeks, were living on the island, and Huston was working 3 nights a week on minimum wage salary so about $100 bucks per paycheck, literally...We were not quite sure if we could afford to pay a tithe because we could barely feed ourselves or pay rent. However, as we did give 10% of each small paycheck we were recieving.... the Lord certainly provided for us. We had help, gratefully from some family until we could get on our feet, but not only that, we were recieving food left and right from people. Our bishop brang over a welcome pineapple, and we were invited to many dinners. No one knew our situation, it was surely that the Lord was providing for his faithful saints. We learned strict obedience to this principle early on, and we are grateful for that because it strengthened our Faith in HIM so much.

So today we are grateful to be full tithe payers and to have learned the importance of this principle. We are also grateful to our loving Heavenly Father who has always provided beyond our means, for us. We are blessed!

November 2

I guess I didnt explain that every day of this month will become my new grattitude journal. I should make it every month, but its November. The month where we celebrate our grattitude and blessings. Once again, like I said, we should celebrate EVERY month.

Anywho.. Today we are grateful for the temple. We literally live less than 200 steps away from the place. That is a such a blessing. We have found so much comfort inside of this earthly heaven, and have recieved many answers to our prayers. It is such a peaceful place, and unlike any other. Its reverant, and beautiful and outside of the world. It is the only place I have been able to feel Christ's love for myself lately, as strong as I need to. Whenever I attend the temple I come out feeling like a stronger, more motivated, all around better person. And I feel like Christ knows my name personally and hears my prayers.

Recently in the last year, we have had the oppurtunity to do temple work with quite a few family names. It is a wonderful experience to be able to know that the people in your family line have been waiting for years for thier work to be done and it finally is. It is a great feeling to know that they have finally been given the oppurtunity to have the gospel and be exalted into the kingdom.

It has been our goal all year to attend 2x's a month. We have succeeded up to the last two months unfortunately but I think because of proximity we should up our number to once a week to make it an easier habit in our lives.

We LOVE the temple.

October

October was a festive month for me! I sort of went all out with decor. :) It was fun and cheap

And here are some photos of our Halloween. It was kind of a lame one because Huston had to work until 8pm, but we made sure we made it fun. We dressed up as SMORES because it was free. and we visited our favorite little kiddos, I went for a walk with a friend to see the trick or treaters, we then carved pumpkins, and had some friends over to watch captain america. It was a fun night to say the least! It just didn't feel like Halloween.

The only thing we didn't do on our Halloween bucket list was go to the Pumpkin Patch, it will just have to be on the list for next year.
