House-Sitting

Some people we know-left the island for a month. They left us thier keys.....

You get the picture. :)

They live in a beautiful condo at Turtle Bay, and just needed us to check in every now and again. They told us we could stay there if we wanted to as well.

We decided to take them up on this offer and have a nice little weekend getaway. Sometimes its nice to stay somewhere thats not the size our little box. As much as we love our "box", its nice to be in a place where there is more space and they have a couch big enough for the both of us to feel comfortable on, an actual dishwasher(i had forgotten what that was like), and surround sound on the TV. We may feel inclined to do this a couple more times ...after all they will be gone for a whole month!

Harry Potter

From these little children....
To these true wizards..

I was never the obsessive type, i never dressed up for a midnight showing, however... I did love the books, and the movies. After all i was only 11 years old when the first book came out.(thats almost 12 years of my life invested in these stories) My family does own every book, all 7 of them and casette tapes to match each one. It was definately a common ground in our house. First me, then Jenson, and then Marlie. Our own little book club.

Well Huston and I saw Harry Potter 7 part 2 Thursday night. It was an epic ending, however I am not quite sure I was ready for it all to come to an end. It just seems so weird that the story ends.

In honor of my childhood coming to an abrupt end thursday night.. (im not quite sure how i feel about it) I have made  a goal to start reading the books again. Its been a while. After this term, I am truly going to make it a goal to start at number one, and read the books all the way through again.

Live on Harry Potter. You are one legendary wizard. Thanks for filling my imaginiation with endless possibilities. I hope you will do the same for my children someday.

Talents

Talents- When i think of this word, i think of a GIFT.

What GIFTS did god bless ME with persay?? Well, that is the fun part.

I think as a woman we have tendency to put ourselves down and pressure ourselves into being the perfect wife, the craftiest, the most organized, the most spiritual, etc.We trick ourselves into thinking we are not as talented as the other, or put ourselves down for not having certain gifts/talents.when really we can still DEVELOP our talents. I just read an article and one thing i liked most from that article was that it said Talents do not have to have an audience.Alot of times i ask myself, wow, if i were to go onto the show "America's Got Talent" what would i do?? Basically, i dont have many "audience" talents, but that doesnt mean i dont have any talents at all.

Truth is, some people are more patient than me, crafier than i am, definately more organized, are more photogenic, can take pictures, can manage thier time better, are musically, spiritually, and educationally more gifted than i am. However, even though i was not blessed with those amazing talents or gifts, I find comfort in knowing that i could make them my gifts by practicing or learning new things every day.

Alot of times when i think about the special talents i was given the only real thing that comes to mind is SPORTS. Yep, i was a total jock. Volleyball and Softball consumed my entire life for 4 years. However some other talents i have managed to pick up are scrapbooking, cooking/baking, teaching/coaching, babysitting, and organization. Sometimes i wander, why the heck was i blessed with those talents, I can never use them.(LIE) That is just Satan telling me I am not worth anything and wasted my time on something stupid in life. Have you ever given someone a gift that they don’t care about or won’t use? Have you ever wondered if that is how the Lord feels when we ignore the talents He has given us?

I find comfort in knowing everything has a divine purpose. Heavenly Father created me, and sent me to this earth with gifts. He sent me to this earth to learn knowlege, and to develop and grown as a human being with many talents and with many gifts. He sent me here to be a tool in his kingdom. He sent me here to be the best that i know how to be. So what if i cant play the piano, I procrastinate, and I dont cook dinner every night. Everyone is different. That is the beauty of this earth.

The Lord told Joseph Smith, “For all have not every gift given unto them; for there are many gifts, and to every man is given a gift by the Spirit of God.

“To some is given one, and to some is given another, that all may be profited thereby.” (D&C 46:11–12.)

Yikes!

Kilie "Procrastination" Farnsworth - It should be my middle name

Remember that post a couple days ago about the word "Someday" ???

Coincidence that i posted that after i realized i had not taken 9 out of 10 tests for my summer term Psychology class? I think not!

Oops...how did that happen, you ask?  Ya, I kept telling myself I would break it up, and then i never did because studying for the dang tests were taking FOREVER. therefore, M-F last week i was studying each chapter creating my 1 page of notes i was allowed to use.

Which leads up to... Monday July 18, 2011. I was in the testing center at the school from 1pm-6pm.
Good thing i had an hour to spare because the testing center closes at 7pm.

I dont know how i did yet.. but it feels like a HUGE burden has been lifted off my shoulders.

Maybe i procrastinate because i feel really accomplished afterwards... or maybe im just lazy and trying to justify it... however I do not recommend doing what i did Monday. It was stressful and im SO glad its over. Now do you people understand my need to eliminate the word "someday" out of my vocabulary????

A Chip off the ol' Block

I have never posted this story on my blog before. Since i am not the greatest at having a journal.. I thought it would be worth a post because it makes me smile every time i think about it.

Background: Huston, my husband...is a spitting image of his father Baye. He looks just like him, I am told he even acts and sounds just like him. Huston LOVES to tell me stories about his father. He does everything he can to mimic his life after his amazing father's life. For those of you who do not know, Huston lost his father to a cancer battle about 4 years ago.

Anyways, One Sunday as we were walking to church...I hear a little jingle, jangle..I thought this noise was coming from Huston's pocket. He is giggling, but still not telling me where the noise is coming from. I still hear it, because it is not very discrete. Finally, i discovered the noise was coming from his scripture case. I grab it from him, only to feel that it was alot lighter feeling than it should have been. As i opened his case, he says to me " Please dont be mad!" ... I started laughing so hard, Huston had taken his scriptures completely out of his case, and filled it with tons of candy. He thought he was being so sneaky. .. Who needs children of their own when they have husbands right???  As we kept walking, he says to me.. "Kilie, I was just trying to be like my Dad. Dad always had candy or something sweet for us kids to have during sacrament if we were good." My reply was "Oh ya, What kids to we have to give the candy too??"  LoL

I love this story and I will always laugh when i tell it to people. I wish i knew my Father in Law. What i do know, is that he is looking down at his son and thinking "That's my boy!"

Summer School is Over..... NOT!

Well.. Today we finished up our 6 week summer session. It feels so good to be finished, however... we finished just in time to start round 3 of ANOTHER summer session tomorrow. Yep, thats right- No break! New classes, new teachers and all...but NO break.  This will be our 3rd and final summer session for 2011. It ends the first week of September and then we get one week off before Fall semester.

Officially after First Term 2011( July-September) we will only have 3 semesters and 2 terms left.
Our time here will be over before i know it. Although.. It seems like FOREVER away at the same time.

I can picture it now... Cap and Gown- and soo many lei's that you cant see our faces to accent our new degree's we will be holding. FINALLY!

Could-a, Would-a, Should-a!

aka - "could have, would have, should have."

I had an epiphany. I realized.... I say the words "Someday, I wish, or I should have," ... Alot.

For example-

"Someday when we have children, we will be better at having Family Home Evening or i will cook dinner every night." and  "Someday when I have alot of time, i will be more crafty." and "I should have developed better habits early on and kept with the piano!"

From here on out... I am truly trying to eliminate these words from my vocabulary. and not just by exercising a little self control with the vocal cords. but by actually DOING.

I am going to DO something about it. Instead of just thinking about it.

I will no longer procrastinate...(this will take time)

I will CHOOSE to be happy. (this means being more aware of the mood swings, sometimes being a woman really stinks.)

I will make rash desicions and be more adventureous

We will live within our means..(be better at budgeting)

I will exercise- and not make excuses like PMS or being sick. (which are totally and completely valid excuse's)

I will do MORE service-beyond visiting teaching and my calling

I will write in a journal ( I want this to be outside the form of blog and facebook and actually find time to write, or type an actual journal-my thoughts and feelings are important, i want to remember them)

I will take a journal to church on sunday(every) and write down my spiritual thoughts and desires

I will be more crafty. cook more meals. have more projects. (this is hard sometimes with school and work-but i figured that a project once a month or so would be pretty easy to manage)

We will re-vamp our garden and bring it back to life.

I dont want to wake up one day.. and realize i have wasted alot of time saying "I wish, or I should have, or Someday" because that "SOMEDAY" could also be NOW If i chose to make it that way.
